Day 2: Golden circle tour and south coast.

This tour takes you to three of Iceland’s most stunning sights; Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir geothermal area and Þingvellir National Park. The Geysir geothermal area boasts spouting springs, including Strokkur, the most active geyser in Iceland. At Gullfoss you are given the opportunity to stand next to the amazing waterfall, watching enormous quantities of water tumble violently into a deep, meandering gorge. Among the stops on this tour are the gorgeous Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. What makes Seljalandsfoss so famous and interesting is that you can walk behind it. Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall, is the starting point of the Fimmvörðuháls walk over to Þórsmörk. We will also stop at Reynisfjara black sand beach, with the Reynisdrangar rock formations and columnar basalt. Additionally, we stop by Sólheimajökull glacier and walk up to a small lake that has formed in front of the retreating glacier. Overnight in Vik.

Day 3: Towards Eastfjords

Drive across the Mýrdalssandur floodplains and Eldhraun, the largest lavafield ever to flow on Earth in historical time, and to the small village Kirkjubaejarklaustur. Fjaðrárgljúfur is a narrow and beautiful canyon a few km to the west from Kirkjubæjarklaustur, worth taking a look at. Continue east from Klaustur over Skeidarársandur, vast tracts of black sandy desert washed down by numerous torrential glacial rivers. Stop at Skaftafell National Park, an oasis wedged between glacier and sand. Its natural beauty is a result of unusually favorable weather conditions and the interaction of ice and fire. An interesting hiking trail takes you to Svartifoss, one of Iceland’s most picturesque waterfall, framed in by beautiful basalt columns that surround it. Overnight in Hofn.

Day 4: Continue towards the North Iceland.

Continue towards the north. Visit Djúpivogur Fishing Village, and the town of Egilsstaðir. Drive around picturesque Lake Mývatn on the way to Akureyri, making a stop at the stunningly beautiful Goðafoss Waterfall known as the waterfall of the gods. Overnight at Akureyri.
