The city centre is 1496m above sea level and has a population of around 270,000 people. It is also known as the Scotland of the East due to its many waterfalls. The British heritage is still obvious in the population's architecture and dietary habits. The remainder of the day is free. Overnight in a Shillong hotel.

Dy 2 :Shillong - Cherrapunjee (about 60 kilometres / 2 hours)

Cherrapunjiis located in the East Khasi Hills, approximately 50 kilometres southwest of Shillong, the state capital. Cherrapunji, often spelled Sohra or Churra, translates as 'the orange land'. Although it is a somewhat featureless city — a prosaic jumble of glass and concrete for the most part – there are a few fascinating temples to visit. However, a stroll through its back lanes and ancient districts reveals an abundance of local flavour that survives among the suburban sprawl of ponds, palm trees, modest single-story traditional dwellings, and old colonial-era palaces. The remainder of the day is free. Overnight in a Guwahati hotel. (B)

Day 7 :Guwahati

Today, pay a visit to the Kamakhya temple, which is devoted to the goddess Kamakhya, a manifestation of Sati.
