This morning, travel through Cook Strait, which divides New Zealand's North and South Islands, and into the Marlborough Sounds, which are known for their crystal blue seas and lush forests, before landing in Picton. Proceed to the Glacier Region through Lake Wanaka and the historic Haast Pass, the entry of Westland National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue up the West Coast, passing stunning mountain ranges, indigenous forests, and lakes, reaching the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier regions. The Glacier Hot Pools are offered for Self Drive customers. Overnight in the Glacier Region's hotel. (B)
This morning, head north to Greymouth and board the Tranz Alpine train, the world's most famous train (seat in coach passengers only). Ascend through beautiful beech woods, passing the mountain town of Arthur's Pass on your way to the Southern Alps. Travel to Christchurch via the CanterburyPlains.
