Upon arrival in Auckland, 'The City of Sails,' seat in coach clients will be welcomed and personally taken to their accommodation by our local agent. Clients who self-drive will pick up their rental car at the airport and drive to their hotel.
Travel south this morning through the lush Waikato area to Waitomo. Take a guided tour of the world-famous Waitomo Glow worm Caves, which includes an underground boat ride to witness the cavern's millions of light worms. Continue through the wooded Mamaku Ranges to the 'Thermal City' of Rotorua after completion. Overnight in a Rotorua hotel. (B)
Visit Te Puia Thermal Reserve today to observe bubbling mud pools and roaring geysers. After that, visit Rainbow Springs to observe New Zealand's trout, birds, and animals before heading to the Agrodome for a New Zealand farm show involving sheep dog demonstrations, cow milking, and an introduction to our sheep industry's stars. Afternoon is free. Enjoy a genuine Maori Hangi (feast) and concert this evening. Overnight in a Rotorua hotel. (A, B)
Today, journey south to the popular lake resort of Taupo and along the lake's shores to Turangi, before continuing on the Desert Road, which is dominated by the three peaks of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro in the distance. Continue south through gorgeous countryside until you reach Wellington, the 'Capital City.' Overnight in a Wellington hotel. (B)
This morning, take a scenic tour of Wellington and a brief guided tour of Te Papa (the 'Museum of New Zealand'), followed by an afternoon free to explore New Zealand's capital city. Overnight in a Wellington hotel. (B)
Today, travel over Cook Strait, which separates New Zealand's North and South Islands, and into the Marlborough Sounds, which are known for their crystal blue seas and lush forests, before landing in Picton. Proceed south through Blenheim until you reach Kaikoura. Overnight in a Kaikoura hotel. (B)
This morning, continue across North Canterbury to Christchurch, the 'Garden City.' (B)
Today, go over the rich Canterbury Plains to Lake Tekapo. Before going on to Mt Cook National Park, stop at the 'Church of the Good Shepherd.' Overnight at a Mt.Cook hotel (B)
Travel south along the beaches of Lake Pukaki to the little town of Twizel, then north through the historic Central Otago area to Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown's 'Alpine Resort.' Overnight in a Queenstown hotel. (B)
Day is free to explore the several alternative attractions. Bungy jumping, jetboating, white water rafting, and gondola excursions are all available in Queenstown. (B)
Today, proceed to Lumsden on the southern arm of Lake Wakatipu, and then on to Lake Te Anau. To reach Milford Sound, enter the Eglinton Valley and go via the breath-taking man-made Homer Tunnel. Take a sail in this world-renowned fiord, which is dominated by Mitre Peak. Make your way back to Te Anau. Overnight in a Te Anau hotel. (B)
This morning, travel across the lush Southland Plains to South Otago, passing through Gore and Balclutha. Then go north to Dunedin, dubbed the 'Edinburgh of the South'. Afternoons is free for optional activities. Overnight in a Dunedin hotel. (B)
