We're off to the Great Wall of China's Juyong Pass this morning. Investigate the history of a wall erected hundreds of years ago that is still mostly intact as it twists endlessly over the mountain ridgelines. This morning, see Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, China's largest and most comprehensive collection of historic structures. Within 170 acres, the total complex consists of 8,706 rooms in which an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people resided, including 3,000 eunuchs, servants, and concubines. Later, pay a visit to the Summer Palace. Time to go shopping in Yaxiu market. Overnight in Beijing at a hotel. (B)

We will take you to the airport or train station this morning to catch your flight or train to Xi'an. When you arrive in Xi'an, you will be welcomed and taken to your accommodation. Continue on to the famed Terra-cotta Warriors, one of the most important archaeological excavations of the twentieth century. An army of thousands of life-sized troops and their horses in combat formation, buried for 2000 years, guards Emperor Qin Shi- Huang's tomb. After that, go to the Arts and Crockery Factory. The Muslim Bazaar offers free shopping. Overnight in Xian at a hotel.

Fly to Guilin, a city surrounded by mountains, lakes, and caves; upon arrival, you will be welcomed and driven to your accommodation. Overnight in Guilin at a hotel. (B)

Today, go to Pearl Factor and take a 2-hour steamer excursion down the Li River amid a bizarre environment of limestone karst cliffs. Later, visit Yangshuo West Street, a tiny market village, and do some free shopping at the Yangshuo West Street market. Overnight in Guilin at a hotel. (B)

Fly to Shanghai this morning. When you arrive, you will be greeted by our English-speaking guide and transported to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to explore the city on your own. Overnight in Shanghai at a hotel. (B)

Today, take a full-day tour of the Jade Buddha Temple and the Silk Factory. Then go to the Bund, which is lined with superb colonial buildings from the 1930s that have been renovated as a city highlight and are spectacularly illuminated up at night. After that, go to the 88th level of the Jinmao Tower and enjoy some free shopping on Nanjing Road. Overnight in Shanghai at a hotel. (B)
