Explore the history of a wall erected hundreds of years ago that is still mostly intact as it twists endlessly across the mountain ridgelines. This morning, see Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, China's largest and most comprehensive collection of historic structures. Within 170 acres, the complex consists of 8,706 apartments in which an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people resided, including 3,000 eunuchs, servants, and concubines. Later, go to the Summer Palace. Free time to go shopping in Xiushui market. In Beijing, spend the night at a hotel. (B)

This morning, we will take you to the airport or train station to catch your flight or train to Xi'an. When you arrive in Xi'an, you will be welcomed and transported to your accommodation. Later, we will take you on a city tour of Xian, including a picture stop at the City Wall. You will spend the night at a hotel in Xian. (B)

After breakfast at the hotel, take a full-day tour to the Jade Buddha Temple and the Silk Factory. Then go to the Bund, which is lined with great colonial buildings from the 1930s that have been rebuilt as a showpiece for the city and are spectacularly lighted up at night. After that, go to the 88th level of the Jinmao Tower and do some free shopping on Nanjing Road. Overnight in a hotel in Shanghai. (B)
